About Enervac

About Clark-Reliance

Tracing its roots back to 1885, when Indiana-based Bowser Inc. began the manufacture of a coal oil dispenser, ENERVAC has enjoyed a rich history, marked by a commitment to providing customers with products designed to exceed their expectations.

Bowser Inc. was purchased by a large oil purification company in 1969. In 1978 ENERVAC was formed and acquired the specialized fluid handling and air processing equipment lines from this company.

Through the development of high efficiency, cost-effective engineered equipment, ENERVAC helps solve one of the most important issues facing industry… resource recovery. Environmental responsibility has rapidly become more than a need in today’s business environment… it has become a demand, often legislated and always expected. ENERVAC has a strong tradition in the development of technologies and systems to manage liquid waste resources effectively and efficiently.

Transformer Oil Purification Systems

Transformer Oil Purifier / Degasification (E865A)

ENERVAC’s (transformer oil purifier) high vacuum process is used for the dehydration and degasification of electrical insulating liquids including transformer oils, polybutene and silicone fluids, to increase and maintain their dielectric strength. The processing includes the removal of free and soluble water, dissolved air and gases and particulate matter. The most important applications of high vacuum (transformer oil purification) degasifiers (transformer oil purifiers) are in the field of extra high voltage transmission and in the manufacture of electrical apparatus.

In addition, the high vacuum process is used in the degasification of cable oils including polybutene. Outside of the electrical industry, this process is used for electronic and radar equipment, vacuum pump sealing oils, brake fluids and refrigeration oils – including phosphate esters and silicones. Mobile and stationary units are available in sizes 50 to 6000 GPH (190 to 23,000 l/h).

ENERDry Transformer Dry-Out System

Transformers and their paper insulation have a primary enemy – water. Water can be removed from a transformer using a vacuum dehydration process. Now, however, an easier and less expensive method can be used to remove the water from the transformer oil and its paper insulation. Transformers that have 5% moisture or higher can be dried to acceptable levels without taking the transformer out of service.

On-Line Tap Changer Oil Purifier (TFS-2)

ENERVAC developed the On-Line Tap Changer Oil Purifier (TFS-2) to reduce carbon, water, and metallic particles in tap changers. These contaminants are generated by arcing contacts during load transfer from tap-to-tap within the tap changer compartment. By using this system, operating and maintenance costs are reduced, and overall system reliability is significantly improved. Load tap changer issues can be effectively minimized through continuous on-line oil filtration provided by ENERVAC’s TFS-2 system.

  • Reduces carbon, water & metallic particles in tap changer oil
  • Prevents contamination caused by arcing contacts
  • Lowers operation & maintenance costs
  • Enhances system reliability & performance
  • Continuous on-line oil filtration for improved efficiency

Insulating Oils Purification Fuller’s Earth Filter (E575A)

Fuller’s Earth oil filters are used to remove acids and soluble, surface-acting contaminants through adsorption. Treatment with Fuller’s Earth increases the oil’s Interfacial Tension (IFT) and reduces the Power Factor (PF) to desired levels. When water and volatile acids are removed from oil through a prior vacuum process, the adsorptive capacity of Fuller’s Earth is greatly enhanced for removing remaining soluble contaminants. The system ensures positive protection, resulting in migration-free, sparkling clean effluent. Acids, gums, resins, and other surface-acting contaminants are effectively trapped and retained within the media.

  • Removes acids & soluble contaminants by adsorption
  • Increases Interfacial Tension (IFT) of oil
  • Reduces Power Factor (PF) to optimal levels
  • Enhanced performance after prior vacuum dehydration
  • Provides clean, contaminant-free effluent
  • Traps acids, gums, resins & other soluble impurities
  • Available in 1000, 2000 & 3000 lb. stationary towers (single or dual)

Polychlorinated Biphenyl (PCB) Decontamination System

The MPU series is designed for the decontamination of electrical insulating oils contaminated with low levels of Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs), also known as "Askarels". PCBs were first synthesized in 1881 and became widely used in transformers due to their excellent stability, fire resistance, insulating properties, and low volatility.

Unfortunately, because PCBs are extremely stable organic compounds, they persist indefinitely in the environment and accumulate in the fatty tissue of living organisms. These pollutants are so toxic that even one gram can contaminate up to one billion litres of water. Approximately 635,000,000 kg of Askarels were produced in North America before the ban on PCB production in 1977.

  • Designed for decontaminating oils with low PCB levels
  • Effective for electrical insulating oils contaminated with Askarels
  • PCBs were widely used due to stability, fire resistance & insulation
  • Persistent organic pollutants that remain indefinitely in the environment
  • Highly toxic—1 gram can contaminate 1 billion litres of water
  • Over 635 million kg produced in North America before 1977 ban
