IRON & STEEL

Iron and Steel Industry

The iron and steel industry is a primary industry because all other sectors—heavy, medium, and light—depend on it for machinery and essential materials. Steel is required to manufacture a wide range of engineering products, construction materials, defense equipment, medical devices, telecommunication tools, industrial machinery, and various consumer goods. The production and consumption of steel are often considered indicators of a nation’s development.

Iron and steel are among the most versatile materials, used in everything from jet engines to surgical instruments and from table knives to industrial tools. Most modern buildings are quietly supported by an internal steel framework that becomes invisible once construction is completed. Major steel consumers include the construction industry, automotive and shipbuilding sectors, metal can manufacturers, and producers of household electrical appliances.

Iron and steel production is classified as a heavy industry because both raw materials and finished goods are heavy and bulky, leading to high transportation costs. Consequently, the overall production of steel within our Multiline operations is sufficient to meet domestic demand.
